Tesla Down Under

Tesla down under has found another use for tin-foil hats (apart from keeping the CIA out of your mind, obviously) - conducting massive amounts of electricity into your swimming pool, while you're in it! TDU's site is awesome, there are some amazing pictures and movies there, including his Eye of Sauron, anti car jacking device, and Dalek cage (shown in the movie below). (thanks simon.)

Thermodynamics Lives to Fight Another Day

So doomsday came and went and nothing happened. You know, Stoern's Orbo technology, it was going to change everything. Well, unfortunately for all, and unsurprisingly for some, there were some problems and Stoern had to postpone their much anticipated demo. The machinist is running a wonderful piece of schadenfreude on Stoern's problems. I mean over-heating... it's as if there is more energy coming out than is being put in. That's just impossible, right?

Bumper Cars on Ice

Here's a video showing why it's dangerous to drive in icy conditions (all hail conservation of momentum!). The video was shot in Portland, Oregon and there's a related article here in the Oregonian.

You can play with cars on ice in this flash bumper car game.

Sulfur hexafluoride

Everyone knows that a lung full of Helium makes the pitch of your voice rise. This is due to the speed of sound through the gas, and is safe because Helium is inert (and so doesn't burn or react with the contents of your lungs). Well, Sulfur hexaflouride is an inert gas that is both heavier than air and allows sound to travel through it significantly slower. Here's a cool video that demonstrates these features.
