What OS is your Presidential Candidate (and other Palin Wonders)?

I just had to share this:

(From yogan's archive of lulz. Thank you Yogan!)
I've been watching VP candidate Palin on youtube, have you? Did you know she reads all the news?

And did you see the Saturday Night Live clip that totally misrepresented her?

Not Smarter than the Average Bear

There have been some bizarre cases of animals being taken to court in historical times but recently a court in Bitola in Macedonia has found a bear guilty of theft. Zoran Kiseloski took a case against the bear after it stole honey from him. The man initially dealt with the bear himself by buying a generator and setting up lights and pumping turbo-folk music (by Ceca, a popular Serbian musician) to drive away the discerning bear. However, the criminal mastermind bid his time and lay in wait for the generator to run out whereupon he pounced and committed the crime. Apparently the trial has taken a year to finish but justice was served and the criminal fined 140,000 denar (about $3,500). The government paid the fine to Kiseloski, because, unfortunately, the bear proved smarter than the authorities, and is still at large. I'll bet neither Kiseloski nor Ceca will get a proper night's sleep till the criminal is locked up...

This story got a lot of press, the best of it was on the Times online.

I'm On Setanta Sports

Setanta Sports have been running a series after premier league games on Saturdays and late at night after Champion's League games, where José Murinho gives his take on the latest news. This is some of the funniest TV I've seen in weeks, and the best part is that all the episodes are on youtube! Here's Sven's debut:

Be champions...

The episode where the special one confronts the Voyeur is especially great - "surely this is legal minefield":

Minesweeper - The Movie

CollegeHumor have produced a trailor for Minesweeper the movie. It looks better than Tomb Raider to me, I wonder if they could sign up Angelina Jolie to play the civilian instructor role?

Oh hai. In teh beginnin…

After LOLCats, LOLBOTS, LOLCode, LOLPolz, LOLSpiders, and LOLPhilosophers, it should come as no surprise that the LOLCat phenomenon has arrived in the bible, sorry, in the LOLCat Bible. This is really quite sacrilicious... from Genesis, chapter 1 (Boreded Cieling Cat makinkgz Urf n stuffs): An Ceiling Cat sayz, i can haz lite? An lite wuz., and later, in chapter 8: An Ceiling Cat sayed, i can has teh firmmint wich iz funny bibel naim 4 ceiling, so wuz teh twoth day. LOL! (thanks jimmy.)

Movie Trailor Re-cuts

The Association of Independent Creative Editors ran a competition in 2005 for people to re-edit movie trailers re-cutting the film's visuals but changing the genre. The winner was "Shining" - Stanley Kubrick's horror movie re-cut as a romantic comedy (there's lots of information on Shining on the tattered coat's blog):

Since then lots more of these have emerged. My personal favourite is "Must Love Jaws" - Jaws re-cut as a love story: (thanks enda.)

Another great one is Caakth?l - Cocktail re-cut in the Bollywood style:

There's a whole website here dedicated to these trailer mash-ups.

The Thriller in Cebu

...rather than the Thrilla in Manila. This video shows prisoners working out in Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center... and by working out I mean dancing an elaborate choreography to Michael Jackson's Thriller:

They also perform versions of Radio GaGa and Sister Act. (thanks gordo.) I wonder what Seinfeld would have thought of it.

And if you like dodgy rip-offs, check out Cracked.com's commentary on this video of India's answer to Michael Jackson.

Robots.txt for Google Maps

There has been some controversy recently about the street views on google maps. There's a cool image on guiabuscadores blog with a proposal for using robots.txt files to block Google from spidering your house.

LOLCATS, LOLBOTS, and LOLCODE

Paul McNamara ran a piece two weeks ago on the phenomenon of LOLCATS with a link to a great slideshow on Slate. It seems they live here. My favorite (for marv's sake) is probably this one:

All Fun and Games…

Nash Edgerton has created a short movie called Spider that is available on qoob - well worth the watch but it's really disturbing. (thanks knox.)
